Meredith and her husband, Joel, are both from the Valley City, North Dakota area, where both of their families farmed in rural Barnes and Steele County. Meredith is a third-generation attorney. Her mother, Robin, was Barnes County States Attorney for 17 years and later developed and ran the Indigent Defense program for the State of North Dakota. Meredith has lived in Grand Forks since attending the University of North Dakota where she received her B.A. in Psychology in 2003. During law school, she received numerous awards including being elected to Order of the Coif, Order of the Barristers, Moot Court Champion, and was the recipient of various scholarship awards.

Despite her success and passion for serving others in the legal field, Meredith is most proud of her family. She has been married to her husband and high school sweetheart, Joel, since 2003. Joel is also an attorney in the Grand Forks community. They have three active and dynamic children who are involved in hockey, soccer, wrestling, and theater.
